"As a Black person, hair is one of your big concerns" this becomes increasingly true when you are battling cancer.
In an upcoming WIGgIT podcast episode, we delve into the inspiring story of Charlotte Daniels – a published author, devoted mother, and breast cancer survivor. Charlotte shares her extraordinary journey, from battling cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic to how she supports others in their fight against cancer through giving back.
Reflecting on her journey, Charlotte discusses the role of hair in her recovery process. "As a Black person; hair is one of your big concerns", she shares. Grateful for the kindness of a friend who assisted her with hairstyling during her recovery- she tells us "I couldn't do anything for myself after the surgery. There was no way I would’ve been able to raise my arms for quite a long time to do [my hair]”. Charlotte also shares some of her favourite hairstyles as well as touching on self-expression through hair especially when navigating professional settings. "Hair has a lot to do with... giving an impression that you are professional and you take your appearance seriously".
Charlotte talks about all things hair, and her upcoming charity event on the 8th of March at Addenbrooke's Hospital, where she received exceptional care during her battle with cancer. The event, coinciding with International Women's Day, will mark the release of her poetry book, "Fallen," written under her pseudonym Raine Scott. "Readers can get their copies signed by me” at the event. "I am using the book to support a fantastic cause... for the breast cancer unit at Addenbrookes Hospital," she expresses, going deeper into what motivated her to give back. All proceeds from book sales during March are being donated to the Addenbrooke's Breast Unit. She invites readers to join her for the event and donate through her Just Giving link to make a difference and support the cause.
